Eisteddfod Preparation

Students can be prepared for Eisteddfod sections in either weekly or casual private lessons. See below for sections available in both Speech & Drama and Singing Sections.

SPEECH & DRAMA

These solo sections are for children aged between 5 to 10 years.

* Characterisation (A monologue performed in costume and character)

* Verse Recitation (A lyrical or narrative poem of serious nature)

* Humorous Recitation (A funny poem or prose piece)

* Mime ( a story told using only physical and facial expression. No music, or voice allowed)

The solo sections are for students aged between 11 to 18 years.

* Characterisation (A monologue performed in costume and character)

* Shakespearean (A piece performed in character of a play written by William Shakespeare)

* Period Piece ( A monologue from a play written before 1940, performed in costume)

* Prepared Reading (An excerpt from a book read with expression and meaning)

* Mime ( a story told using only physical and facial expression. No music, or voice allowed)

Duologues are scenes for two people. The following age groups are performed in the Mackay Eisteddfod.

* 8 Years & Under

* 10 Years & Under

* 12 Years & Under

* 14 Years & Under

* 18 Years & Under

SINGING

AGES 5 to 10

* Vocal Solo

(this is either a folk song, hymn, children's song or nursery rhyme that must be chosen from the books allocated by the Mackay Eisteddfod Committee. Students will normally need 4 half hour solo lessons in order to perform a vocal solo. These solos are performed with a live piano accompanist.

AGES 9 and UP

* Song from any Musical

(This must be from a stage or movie musical. It can't be from a Jukebox Musical. It needs to be performed in costume and in character with a live piano accompanist.)

AGES 11 & UP

* Sacred Solo A traditional hymn performed with live piano accompaniment)

* Vocal Solo (A classical song performed with live piano accompaniment)

* Modern Sacred Solo (A modern hymn performed with live piano accompaniment. Can use a microphone.)

AGES 13 & UP

* Modern Solo (A modern song performed with live guitar or piano accompaniment. Can use a microphone.)

SONG & DANCE

If your child is enrolled in singing lessons with me and they also learn dance at a local dance studio. I can train them for the singing part of a Song and Dance Solo. Your child's dance teacher will train them for the dance element.
